School Profile

Gerald McShane School serves the English communities of the north- east corner of Montreal North and the western Rivière-des-Prairies district.  The school's English and French Programs help students develop an appreciation for reading and writing in both languages. All students from Grades 1 to 6 are in a partial immersion program, in which study time is split equally in English and French.  As of September 2010, the school will begin the gradual implementation of the French Immersion Program beginning with Kindergarten and Grade 1.  As a result, the present Kindergarten students will have their instruction entirely in French for the next 2 years (that is, Grades 1 and 2) followed by a 50-50 English-French program from Grades 3 to 6.

Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year

Highslide JS

At Gerald McShane School we are committed to making learning an enriching experience.  The staff is dedicated to fostering academic excellence through the development of the whole student: intellectually, physically, and socially.  We also emphasize the importance of friendship; we instill in our students a sense of belonging and provide them with a positive learning environment to motivate them to achieve their own personal success.

Gerald McShane School is located at 6111 Maurice Duplessis in Montreal North.  Its present population is 276 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6.  The school hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. with daycare services available in the morning and afterschool until 6:00 p.m.  Students residing within the Gerald McShane territory are entitled to receive school bus transportation services.

If you wish to visit the school or learn more about our programs, activities, and services, you may call  (514) 321-1100 and schedule an appointment with the school principal who will be delighted to show you the school and answer all your questions.  Click here to download the Gerald McShane brochure (Adobe Reader required).

Gerald McShane’s 4th Annual Bazaar
Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:57

Garage_SaleThis year the PPO of Gerald Mc Shane decided to have another Bazaar as part of its annual fundraising activity.

When spring comes around we all catch the same fever....the spring cleaning fever.

We find ourselves with what we consider to be junk but remember the old saying that ‘ONE MAN’S JUNK IS ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE’.  This is a great way to recycle our old things and in a world that more than ever needs to be GREEN we should encourage our children to think ecologically and a Bazaar is a great opportunity for that.
We are planning on holding the event on Saturday June 2nd from 8am till 4pm in our senior school yard (if it rains it will be in the gymnasium).  The PPO will be renting out tables at a cost of 25$ per table (standard rectangular fold out tables) thus allowing you to set up and sell your items (you cannot bring your own tables and you are responsible to sell your own items).  The rental of tables is your donation in the fundraising and anything you sell will be yours to keep.

If you are interested in renting tables please contact the school for a response coupon.  It is important that both your response slip and payment for the tables be returned to school by Friday May 18th the latest.  Your payments must be well identified and may be made by cash or cheque (made out to the school).  Should there be a low participation and a need for cancellation you will be notified and your money refunded.

Thank you for your ongoing support and co-operation and remember that our effort and work is always rewarding because it is for our children.

Huggies Valentine’s Day Project 2011
Sunday, 04 March 2012 19:10

Once again the Daycare participated in the Annual Huggies Valentine’s Day basket Card Drive for the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Many colorful cards were made along with donations to purchase toys for the children. With the help of Rocco Speranza SCA, we combined our donations with John Paul High School.

The grade 5 students wrote a short note about "why they would like to go shopping".  The students selected to participate in the shopping trip were Brianna Giampa, Emma Mancini and Jasmine Gennare and were treated to lunch at Subway. The children were very happy to help out the sick children at the hospital buy purchasing lovely toys.

The grade 6 students Matteo Salvatore, Melody Ouellette and Anna Cipolla were picked after they wrote a short note "why they should go to the hospital to deliver the toys to the children". They were also treated to lunch at Subway. The grade 6 students were happy to give out the toys to the children and to see a big huge smile on their faces.

Building our Future with Links from the Past from GMSTV on Vimeo.

Since the beginning of the year your children have been involved in a school-wide literacy project which required them to interview a grandparent or a senior they know and create two pieces of writing in French and two in English based on the person they interviewed.
